DURING AN EARTHQUAKE
- If you are inside a building, move no more than a few steps, drop, cover and hold. Stay indoors till the shaking stops and you are sure it is safe to exit. In most buildings in New Zealand you are safer if you stay where you are until the shaking stops.
- If you are in an elevator, drop, cover and hold. When the shaking stops, try and get out at the nearest floor if you can safely do so.
- If you are outdoors when the shaking starts, move no more than a few steps away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and power lines, then Drop, Cover and Hold.
- If you are at the beach or near the coast, drop, cover and hold then move to higher ground immediately in case a tsunami follows the quake.
- If you are driving, pull over to a clear location, stop and stay there with your seatbelt fastened until the shaking stops. Once the shaking stops, proceed with caution and avoid bridges or ramps that might have been damaged.
- If you are in a mountainous area or near unstable slopes or cliffs, be alert for falling debris or landslides.

W.A.L.T: Sequence the Rock Cycle
Choose a partner to work with and then decide on an app to show how rocks are made in a Rock Cycle.
Design a rock cycle showing how the 3 types of rocks are made and then label your diagram using these labels in the correct places. You can also make your own labels if you decide to.
Magma ( hot melted rock), deep under ground cools down and crystallises making igneous rock.
Igneous rock erodes by wind, water or other forces into sediment ( small particles of rock). These small particles are deposited in layers which eventually become sedimentary rock.
Some sedimentary rock is pushed deep under ground, where they are exposed to heat and pressure transforming them into metamorphic rock.

W.A.L.T: Make change happen
Today we put an M and M inside some water to see what would happen? First we predicted what we thought would happen.
As soon as we put the M and M in the water, the water changed colour to the colour of the M and M.

As soon as we put the M and M in the water, the water changed colour to the colour of the M and M.
As we observed the colour came off and the M and M turned all white. After a few minutes it turned brown.
Then something really exciting happened! The M came off and floated to the top. We wonder why that happened?
The colour from the M and M went into the water. The colour went in as a solid and changed into a liquid.
Did it change from a solid to a liquid because it dissolved? Why didn't the M dissolve?

Change Experiment
On Friday the Year 3's and 4's began an experiment to see if different objects would change over time if they were buried in the ground. We buried things such as - a plastic bag, gladwrap, an apple, a sandwich, a juice box and tinfoil. In week 10 we will dig them up again to see if the objects have changed in any way. What do you think will happen to the objects?? Write a comment with what your prediction.

Room 8 asked the question: What if there was no St Johns? To answer the question we had to first find out what St Johns does, what role to they have in our community and what would happen if they weren't there.

St Johns Visit
Today the Year 4 classes had a visit from St John. They learnt how to make 111 calls correctly, how to wrap a bleeding cut and learnt even more about what St John do for us in the community. Room 8: What did you learn? Have you practised your phone number and address?
Remember to keep bringing in old toys and books so we can sell them to raise money for St Johns.
