Matua Edwards also told us that where we come from is very important to Maori. They would also include their mountain, river, ocean, waka and tribe in their Pepeha.  Here is the vocab for these.

Maunga – mountain

Moana – ocean

Waka –  canoe

Awa – river

Iwi – tribe (where your parents come from)  or (Halsey Drive)

Hapu – (sub tribe)  or (Rm 8)

Marae – area around the buildings

Papa - Father

Mama - Mother
